The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra Performs TWO Concerts in March

Fayetteville, NC- The Fayetteville Symphony orchestra will hold its annual Children’s Concert on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 3pm in Reeves Auditorium at Methodist College. The music selection is fun and recognizable providing an enjoyable experience for the whole family. Tickets for this event are free for children and adults accompanying a child. On Sunday, March 19, 2006 at 3pm in Reeves Auditorium, we will have our annual Pops concert. This concert will feature Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto performed by Cape Fear High School junior, Terri Williams. We will also be performing Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens, Salute to Ol’ Blue Eyes – a compilation of Frank Sinatra’s biggest hits, and some of your favorite “Movie Music”.

Guest Soloist Terri Williams began playing the trumpet at Mac Williams Middle School under the direction of Mrs. Felicia MacNaught.  Terri has been first chair trumpet for the Cumberland All County Band, the Southeastern All-District Band, The Eastern Regional Jazz Band, The Eastern Regional Orchestra, and the North Carolina All-State Honors Band.  In the summer of 2005, Terri was selected to attend The Governor’s School of North Carolina. Terri is a junior at Cape Fear High School where she is a straight “A” student and a member of the marching band, jazz band, and wind ensemble.  She also performs with the Clement Brass Ensemble and the Triangle Youth Brass Band.  Terri currently resides in Eastover with her parents Michael and Susan Williams and her sister Alex.

“The idea of a pops concert is to have a good time. Playing fun music that gets the audience involved is one of the most important aspects to a concert of this structure,” according to Caroline Parsons, Executive Director of the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra. “This weekend is so important not only to have a good time, but to get children in the community involved with the symphony and that is something the symphony is focusing more and more on,” Parsons said.

This is the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra’s 49th season. We will end this season with our finale concert on April 22, 2006. This concert will feature a new world premiere, composed specifically for the FSO by Maestro Fouad Fakhouri.
