CONGRATULATIONS TO DOMINIC
MERCURIO,
THE FSO 2007-2008 HARLAN
DUENOW
YOUNG ARTISTS CONCERTO COMPETITION
WINNER!
The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra 2008 Harlan
Duenow Young Artists Concerto Competition finals were held on Thursday, June 19,
at Methodist University. The semi-finalists all performed extremely well. Due
to amount of talent in the final auditions, the selection committee's decisions
were exceedingly difficult to make.
The winner of the competition is Dominic Mercurio,
a 16 year old pianist. He receives the $1,000 Scholarship, as well as the
opportunity to perform with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra at the 2008
Holiday/Christmas Concert at Berean Baptist Church on Saturday, December 13,
2008. He will perform Capriccio Brilliant for piano and orchestra.
Each year in the spring the Fayetteville Symphony
Orchestra awards a $1,000 cash scholarship to a Cumberland County student
through a competitive process. The scholarship is named in honor of the
orchestra’s longest serving conductor, the late Harlan Duenow.
