"Fantastic French Favorites"
French Guest Soloist: Marylène Dosse Methodist University - Reeves Auditorium Saturday, October 25, 2008 - 8PM Concert Sponsor: Cape Fear Valley Health System Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra Launches Tour Around the World with "Fantastic French Favorites"
Fayetteville witnessed a Season Opening Concert that was nothing short of the crème de la crème. In the process, Fayetteville also got to offer southern hospitality and true appreciation to featured guest artist, the world-renowned French pianist, Marylène Dosse. The FSO Season Opening Concert, "Fantastic French Favorites," on Saturday, October 25, at Methodist University - Reeves Auditorium, left the crowd breathless and begging for an encore. A grand piano was an obvious and curious new addition to the usual concert stage setup, setting Maestro Fakhouri and prized guest artiste Marylene Dosse centerstage. The program then began with a superb performance of Beethoven's Piano Concert No. 1 in C major, Op. 15 . The crowd was in awe at the deft display of artistry by Madame Dosse, supported expertly by the musicianship of the FSO and the guidance of Maestro Fakhouri. The second half of the program, Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique , lasted an astonishing 50 minutes with 75 musicians on stage! "By far the largest orchestra that we've used, at least since I've been here," Fakhouri said. "It's a very demanding piece. We had to wait three or four years to be able to do it. We had to build the stamina to pull it off." This performance truly exhibited just how far the Fayetteville Symphony continues to grow, succeed and strive. The length and depth of the work might have deterred the casual concert goer, but au contraire, the crowd was mesmerized and the musicians played in a trance-like state as all eyes focused on the precise and passionate conducting of Maestro Fakhouri. If you missed the October 25 concert, you missed an amazing performance. Be sure NOT to miss the annual "Holiday Celebration" at Berean Baptist Church on Saturday, December 13.
