Dominic Mercurio won the prestigious Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra's 2007-2008 Harlan Duenow Young Artists Concerto Competition, subsequently receiving a $1,000 scholarship and the opportunity to perform with the FSO at the holiday concert, "Holiday Celebration," at Berean Baptist Church on Saturday, December 13, at 7:30PM.
Dominic Mercurio was born in Fayetteville on December 18 1991.
He started study of the piano at age four. At the age of seven he
began instruction under Micho Fisher. Three years later he
became a student of Dr. Evans at Meredith College. He has
participated in many auditions and competitions, including but not
limited to the Campbell University High School Competition, Raleigh
Music Club Scholarships, NCMTA and MTNA. He has also won many
competitions, such as the Raleigh Music Piano Teachers Scholarship
Competition, National Guild of Piano Teachers Auditions for the past
six years (consistently receiving a superior rating).
Dominic is a Sophomore at Southview High School where he is enrolled
in the Advance Placement and Academically Intellectually Gifted
Programs. He is also a member of the school tennis team.
He participated in the Governor School for music at Meredith College
in summer of 2008. Dominic loves volunteering his talents for
the choir at Saint Ann's Catholic Church and at Andrew Kim Chapel.
In his spare time Dominic plays tennis, studies martial arts and
plays the piano.
