40+ Patrons joined the FSO for the first of their 2008-2009 FREE Pre-Concert Preview & Mini-Lecture Series: Symphony @ Your Library  Thursday, October 16 - 7-9PM - HQ Library - Downtown Fayetteville

Featured speaker Dr. Joanna Hersey, Asst. Professor of Low Brass UNCP & FSO Principal Tuba player, presented and played musical excerpts as special previews for the audience along with the rest of the FSO Brass Quintet: Dr. Timothy M. Altman, Trumpet; Dr. Larry E. Wells, Trumpet; David A. Kratz, Horn; Nikki DoBell McCaslin, Trombone. 

Topics of discussion and Q&A's included: 

FSO's season opening concert, "Fantastic French Favorites," on October 25, 8PM, at Methodist University.

Incoming featured international guest soloist, French pianist Maryléne Dosse.

The Oct. 25 Concert Programming:

Piano Concerto No.1 in C major, Op. 15 - Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827)

Symphonie fantastique, Op. 14 - Hector Berlioz (1803-1869)

The changes of music from the Classical Era to the Romantic Era

Each FSO Musician also got to address the audience and answer questions regarding their instrument, it's progression in the Symphony over the years, their viewpoint on various topics, etc.

The Oct. 16 Symphony @ Your Library starts with a brief overview of the music and topics that will be discussed in relation to the FSO's season opening concert "Fantastic French Favorites" on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 8PM at Methodist University - Reeves Auditorium
Featured speaker Dr. Joanna Hersey, Assistant Professor of Low Brass - UNCP & FSO Principal Tuba, talks about the French soloist that will be featured at the FSO's Oct. 25 Concert, French pianist Marylène Dosse. 
The entire FSO Brass Quintet plays for the audience of 40+ patrons at Headquarters Library in Downtown Fayetteville. 
Dr. Joanna Hersey, Tuba, discusses Berlioz's program notes for Symphonie fantastique, which will be featured at the Oct. 25 Concert.
Dr. Larry E. Wells, Trumpet, explains different versions of the trumpet over the years. 
Dr. Timothy Altman, Trumpet, watches and listens with the engaged audience to David Kratz, French Horn. 
Nikki DoBell McCaslin, Trombone, addresses the audience.

"Copland, Mozart and Dvorak" - Savor the sounds of America, Austria and Bohemia with the FSO at Seabrook Auditorium on the campus of Fayetteville State University for a wonderful evening of music, including Mozart's famous First Flute Concerto performed by International flute soloist Ines Abdel Daiem , Aaron Copland's powerful masterpiece "Lincoln Portrait" with narration by Ken Smith , as well as Dvorak's famous Symphony No. 8.
