School Visits and Special “Peter & the Wolf” Performances -
Fayetteville and Rocky Mount, with Narrator,

These special concerts are not open to the public.
Only the
specified students are arranged to attend via their respective public
school systems.
In
preparation for the 3rd Grade Cumberland County School “Peter and
the Wolf” Student Concert, made possible through a grant from the Cumberland County Education Foundation with funds from the Harry Louis Yanoff and Jeannette Master Yanoff Charitable Fund's Yanoff Grant. The concert will be performed for an estimated 4,300 3rd grade students from Cumberland County Schools at the Crown Theater on January 30th. Prior to the concert, an FSO Trio
(Deanne Renshaw – Oboe – The
Grace Butler Keith Chair;
Zack May – Cello; Soo Goh – Clarinet) will visit eight select
Cumberland County Elementary Schools on January 27-29, 2009.
These schools were chosen in collaboration with the Cumberland County
Education Foundation and Cumberland County School System.
The
annual interactive classroom visits reach out to Cumberland County
Schools – specifically underserved, low-wealth schools, to bring
the lessons learned in music class to life – letting students
experience the instruments with all of their senses. This program
reinforces what the Cumberland County 3rd
Grade
Students have learned about “Peter and the Wolf” in music class
before they attend the educational concert on Friday, January 30,
2009. There will be two performances by the Fayetteville
Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Fouad Fakhouri, and featuring Ken
Smith as narrator,to accommodate approximately 4,300 Cumberland
County 3rd
grade
students. will perform “Peter and the Wolf” twice at the
Crown Theater in Fayetteville on January 30 at the Crown
Theater in Fayetteville.
For
the first time, the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra is proud to also
be performing this concert for the Nash-Rocky Mount School System's
5th
Grade
Students on Monday, February 2, 2009. There will be two performances
at the Dunn Center for Performing Arts at NC Wesleyan College.

Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra Annual School Visits & Children Concert - January 2008 The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra successfully conducted its annual interactive school visits to eight select Cumberland County Elementary Schools this year on January 22-24, 2008, funded by the Yanoff Arts Initiative of the Cumberland County Education Foundation. FSO musicians presented to approximately 50 students per school visited (8x50=400). The alert and informed 3rd grade classes were engaged in preparation of the educational "Peter and the Wolf" concert at the Crown Theater on Friday, February 1, 2008.The annual interactive classroom visits reach out to Cumberland County Schools to bring the lessons learned in music class to life - letting students experience the instruments with all of their senses. This program reinforces what the students have learned about "Peter and the Wolf" in music class before they attend the educational concert on February 1, 2008. WHO
Three FSO Musicians (Deanne Renshaw - Oboe /The Grace Butler Keith Chair/; Zack May - Cello; Yemi Clinton - Flute; Paul Kirkpatrick - Cello alternate) presented at each school. They interacted with rhythm games, reading the story Peter & the Wolf with visual support and reinforced instruments and instrument families. WHEN & WHERE

CHILDREN'S CONCERT - FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1st
WHO & WHAT
All of Cumberland County School's Third Grade Classes attended this free educational concert (broken into two separate concerts to accommodate the large crowd of children, teachers, and parents) by the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra at the Crown Theatre. The concert featured narrator, Dr. Robert Williams. The concert also featured interactive participation between FSO Conductor Fouad Fakhouri and the children, including one child being brought on-stage during each of the two concerts to conduct the Orchestra during Stars & Stripes with Conductor Fouad Fakhouri.
WHEN & WHERE
There were two concerts on Friday, February 1st , to accommodate an approximate 4500 3rd graders. The concerts took place at 9:30am and 11am at the Crown Theatre.
