Lindsay Wiley – Second Oboe

DSC_0604-2Lindsay Wiley is currently a Performance Artist Certificate candidate at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) where she studies oboe and English horn with Dr. Merideth Hite. She recently joined the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra and is also the second oboist with Lincoln Symphony Orchestra in Lincoln, NE. Lindsay is also a frequent substitute with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, on both oboe and English horn, and was previously the second oboist with the Black Hills Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to orchestral performance, Lindsay is an active chamber musician. She is a founding member of the Artemis Trio, which consists of horn, oboe, and piano, and was the oboist in the Liminal Phase woodwind quintet, a part of UNCSA’s Chrysalis Chamber Institute during the 2015-2016 academic year.
Prior to attending UNCSA, Lindsay earned both Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in oboe performance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). Her teacher was Dr. William McMullen. As a Master’s student, she won the prestigious “Play with the Chiara Competition” and earned the right to perform with the world renowned Chiara Quartet.

Lindsay was a participant in the 7th, 9th, and 10th Carolyn Hove English Horn Masterclasses. This past summer she also attended the Masterclasses for Strings and Winds at the Banff Centre in Banff, Canada, and the Master Players Festival (MPF) in Newark, DE. While attending MPF she was awarded first prize in the woodwind division of the Concerto Competition and fourth prize in the woodwind division of the Solo Competition. Her teachers this summer included Alex Klein, Katherine Needleman, and Sarah Jeffrey.

The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1956 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and is a professional, regional orchestra whose mission is to educate, entertain, and inspire the citizens of the Fayetteville, North Carolina region as the leading musical resource.  Praised for its artistic excellence, the Symphony leads in the cultural and educational landscape for Fayetteville and the southeastern North Carolina region.

The Fayetteville Symphony typically performs 8 concerts during any given season performing both at Methodist University and Fayetteville State University. Partnerships with other agencies include collaborative performances with Cape Fear Regional Theatre, chamber concerts at St. John’s Episcopal Church, as well as the city’s annual Independence concert with fireworks. The Symphony brings music to the schools and the community by performing educational concerts, as well as having its own Fayetteville Symphony Youth Orchestra, after school strings and summer music camps.
