ORCHESTRAS FEEDING AMERICA Fayetteville Campaign Partners: Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra & Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina Fayetteville Symphony Joins Forces with Local Bank to Fight Hunger
The Fayetteville
Symphony Orchestra, in cooperation with the Second Harvest Food Bank of
Southeast North Carolina, announces the full launch of a food drive to benefit
those at risk of hunger in our community. The program,
Orchestras Feeding America, is a national food drive initiative that is
taking place throughout the United States. The Fayetteville Symphony is
requesting the public bring food donations to a public drop-off point (listed
below) or to a Symphony event coordinating with this food drive (listed below).
The food will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North
Carolina. For further info and updates throughout the campaign, please visit http://www.fayettevillesymphony.org and http://ccap-inc.org/foodbank/ . To date, over 225 orchestras in all 50 states have
come together to combat hunger in their communities through Orchestras Feeding
America, and the number of participants is growing
daily! The project is organized by the
League of American Orchestras, which represents the nation’s professional,
volunteer, and youth orchestras, and Feeding America’s network of more than 200
food banks and 63,000 agencies. The drive is inspired by the true story of the
upcoming film, “The
Soloist.”
One in
eight Americans is at risk of hunger. According to the USDA, there are 36 million
people at risk of hunger in the U.S.; twelve million of them are children.
During December 2008, Feeding America conducted a survey of 160 food banks
nationwide and results were troubling, as food banks reported a 30 percent
increase over the previous year's demand for emergency food assistance.
