Do you have a full time job? No
If yes, what do you do for a living as a
day job? N/A
Are you a full time student? I am currently
a full time student at East Carolina University
If yes, what is your major? I am pursuing a
double major in Violin Performance and Music Education.
What are your hobbies and interests? I
spend most of my time in the Music Building practicing. When I do find free
time I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, travelling, and
photography.
What do you like about Fayetteville? I
really like that Downtown Fayetteville is being revitalized and that
opportunities in the Arts are growing as well.
What is something about yourself that most
people don't know? I took Spanish for three years in high school and was
inducted into the Spanish National Honors Society.
Musical Questions
When did you join the FSO? I began playing
my Junior year in High School during the 2005-2006 season.
Why do you enjoy playing with the FSO? I
enjoy the opportunity to play demanding repertoire which I might not have the
chance to play in school. I also love performing with others who enjoy
performing music.
When did you start playing? I began playing
violin in 5th grade with the
Cumberland County School System at age 10.
Do you play any other instruments? I have
studied piano privately for the past 12 years.
Where else have you performed outside of
the FSO? I have performed with the Cumberland County Youth Orchestra, All
County Orchestra, Eastern Regional All State Orchestras, Snyder Baptist Church
Orchestra, North Carolina School of the Arts Symphony, and the East Carolina
University Symphony.
What is your most memorable moment on stage
(good or bad)? My most memorable experience is being in the middle of the
second violin section at the North Carolina School of the Arts when we
performed Mahler’s 10th symphony. It was an awesome experience to be
in the middle of such a great work and knowing that the piece was being
performed by students.
Who has been the biggest influence on your
musical career? All of my private teachers have. I have been fortunate to have
great teachers who not only taught, but became mentors and friends who helped
guide me through my musical decisions.
What sort of music do you enjoy playing or
listening to? I really enjoy playing chamber music. I like the intimate
environment and the different color of sound a smaller group can produce. I
generally tend to listen to popular music that happens to be on the radio at
the time but I still listen to Violin Concertos, Opera works, and chamber
works.
How do you deal with pre-concert nerves? I
tend to enjoy a White Mocha from Starbucks to try to calm down. I know that
makes no sense with the high amount of caffeine in the coffee, but it works for
me.
Who are your favorite composers?
Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Dvorak and Mendelssohn.
What is/are your favorite piece(s) of
music? The Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, Sibelius Violin Concerto, Brahms Piano
Quintet.
What sort of music do you listen to in your
car or when unwinding after a long day at work? While driving I hook up my ipod
to my radio and turn up something with a fast pulse. To unwind I usually like
to listen to jazz or some soothing string chamber music.
