Robert Garbarz is a violinist and from Apex, North Carolina. He performs in several ensembles in the Triangle area and beyond, including the Fayetteville Symphony, the Carolina Philharmonic, and the MARS String Quartet. He received his M.M. in Violin Performance from UNC- Greensboro and a B.M. in Violin Performance from UNC- Chapel Hill. His primary teachers include Fabian Lopez, Richard Luby, and Nicholas DiEugenio. He also dedicates much of his time to teaching.
Robert is equally active on the baroque violin. He has attended the Baroque Performance Institute at Oberlin Conservatory several seasons as well as Tafelmusik’s Baroque Summer Institute. He was concertmaster and frequent soloist with the UNC Baroque Ensemble under the direction of Brent Wissick, and has also performed with UNC’s Faculty Baroque Ensemble and the Baroque & Beyond concert series in Chapel Hill.
Aside from violin, Robert also enjoys conducting. He studied with Tonu Kalam while at UNC and was the director of the UNC Lab Orchestra for its 2014-2015 season. Additionally, Robert was a founding member and co-director of the Raleigh Festival Orchestra.
