FSO
joins CAMEO ART HOUSE THEATRE and ORCHESTRAS FEEDING AMERICA for a
Film Premiere Event to Fight Hunger
The
Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra will partner with The Cameo Art House
Theatre to present an evening of first-rate entertainment focusing on
helping those less fortunate. Following and preceding the two
showings of the film, The
Soloist, meet
with FSO Music Director/Conductor Fouad Fakhouri and enjoy a moving
solo performance by FSO Associate Principal Cellist, Nathan Leyland.
The
FSO, in cooperation with the
Second Harvest Food Bank of Southeast North Carolina, is
participating in Orchestras Feeding America,
a food drive to benefit those at risk of hunger in our community. The
program is organized by the League of American Orchestras, which
represents the nation’s professional, volunteer, and youth
orchestras, and Feeding America’s network of over 200 food banks
and 63,000 agencies. The
drive was inspired by the true story of the upcoming film The
Soloist.
The
event takes place at the Cameo Art House Theatre, 225 Hay Street, on
Friday, April 24. The first showing of the film will be at 6:00 pm,
followed by a performance by Leyland. For the second performance the
soloist will begin at 8:45, and the movie will begin directly
afterwards. After the first performance and before the second, shake
hands with Fakhouri and FSO members and learn more about the oldest
continuously-funded orchestra in North Carolina. A food collection
bin will be available at this and all showings of the film, and with
a food donation receive $1 off regular admission price to the film.
A Cameo Theatre ticket stub from the any showing of the film will be
redeemable for $5 off admission to the FSO's final 2008-09 Season
Concert, “Mozart and Shostakovich” at Methodist University on
Saturday, May 2, 2009. Symphony tickets for the May 2 concert will
be available for purchase during the event on April 24.
Said
Linda Frenette, Executive
Director of the FSO, “We all are feeling the effects of this
economic crisis, but we cannot let that stop us from helping our
neighbors in greater need. Our orchestra’s music uplifts people,
but with this project we can do more to support the community that
has supported us for so long.”
The
Soloist, starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey, Jr., directed by
Joe Wright, will be released by Paramount Pictures to theaters
nationwide on April 24th. A Dreamworks Pictures/Universal
Pictures presentation in association with Studio Canal and
Participant Media, the film is based on the true story of the
relationship between Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez
and Nathaniel Ayers, a gifted Juilliard-trained string player whose
mental illness landed him among the homeless on the streets of Los
Angeles. The relationship has expanded to include staff and
musicians of the Los
Angeles Philharmonic. The Soloist, which also features the
Los Angeles Philharmonic, is a testament to the redemptive power of
music and a reminder of our connections to the most vulnerable among
us.
