Once Upon a Symphony, A Children’s Concert

Admission is free.

Hear magical stories, visit a farm, and have a tea party all in the family friendly atmosphere of the Fayetteville Academy gym where kids will be encouraged to move along with the music. The concert will begin at 11am and will last approximately 45 minutes.

An instrument petting zoo will be available for the children to touch and try different instruments.

Seating will be in the bleachers or families may bring blankets to sit on the floor. Parking is in the back parking lot (Morganton Road side of school).

This concert is sponsored by Terri Union and Brown and Associates Investment Services.

Featured Musician

Laurel Wachtler – Violin

Laurel Wachtler, violinist, graduated with honors from New Mexico State University and has played with numerous groups, including the Phillips Symphony in Oklahoma and the Chamber Orchestra of Southern Maryland as principal second violin, before moving to Fayetteville. She has been a member of FSO for more than 15 years. She also plays with the Vilasi Quartet and the Dogwood Trio. She is a violin instructor at the Snyder Music Academy and has a private studio. She is the violinist and a soprano for the Coventry Carolers, sings in Cantate, and is a pilot for Skies Unlimited Aviation.

The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1956 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and is a professional, regional orchestra whose mission is to educate, entertain, and inspire the citizens of the Fayetteville, North Carolina region as the leading musical resource.  Praised for its artistic excellence, the Symphony leads in the cultural and educational landscape for Fayetteville and the southeastern North Carolina region.

The Fayetteville Symphony typically performs 8 concerts during any given season performing both at Methodist University and Fayetteville State University. Partnerships with other agencies include collaborative performances with Cape Fear Regional Theatre, chamber concerts at St. John’s Episcopal Church, as well as the city’s annual Independence concert with fireworks. The Symphony brings music to the schools and the community by performing educational concerts, as well as having its own Fayetteville Symphony Youth Orchestra, after school strings and summer music camps.
